Optimisation Stiffness of
Paper and Board
Stiffness is important for almost all products
of the paper and board industry. With a large number of Dutch paper and board
mills, suppliers of measuring equipment and chemicals and Wageningen UR Paper
and Board and the Competence Centre Paper and Board different research
projects are carried out with the following aims:
-
Detailed background information on
stiffness requirements, stiffness properties and measuring techniques.
-
Improvement of stiffness within the
existing production process and by use of new raw materials and/or
chemicals.
-
Increased stiffness under humid
conditions.
The research has been carried
out in sub-projects, with different groups of participants, with general
backup from the rest of the participating companies. Examples of
sub-projects are:
-
Optimisation of properties of
laminate paper for optimised bending stiffness of multi-layer board
-
Description and optimisation
of stiffness requirements in the packaging chain
-
Enhancement of stiffness,
strength and roughness of grapic papers.
-
Optimisation of starch
efficiency
-
Better use of
measuring equipment for determining end product properties

project, see also the
