Optimisation refining
Aim of the project is a reduction of energy use in paper production by:
- optimisation of refiner energy: reduction
of energy and raw material use per unit of product performance
- improved process control of the refining
process: reduction of products out of specification and realisation of a
more stable process
- reduction of unnecessary fibre damage
during refining: improved dewatering and therefore reduction of drying
energy and/or increase in productivity
In this project, the Dutch Paper and Bioard
mills co-operate, to realise energy reduction with relatively low efforts
for each company. Results (energy savings and productivity improvement) will
be implemented in the different mills during the project.
The project has started with a benchmark refining
within the Dutch paper and board industry to define the current
state-of-the-art and ‘best practice’. This benchmark has been finalised in
December 2005. After the benchmark,
optimisation of the refining process through new process control and
application of chemicals will be investigated for each mill. This will take
place in 2005 and 2006. Communication will take place through the Platform
Refining of the Competence Centre Paper and Board. For more information on
the benchmark phase, see
also the information leaflet
Optimisation
refining (only in Dutch).
